President Corrine opened the meeting by welcoming everyone and gave an opening prayer. She then turned the program over to the Priscilla Circle. “America the Beautiful” was sung and Helen Peterson gave devotions from Psalms 33, “A Prayer for the Nation”. She then introduced Pastor Steve who spoke on Lutherans in America Today. Between 1700 and the early 1900’s many Germans and Scandinavians immigrated to America to avoid religious persecution and to gain farmland for their families, resulting in over 100 separate Lutheran church bodies. Between 1800 and 2000 Lutheran bodies joined together for commonality like missionary work, higher education, social service agencies and like-minded theology. Today there are 35 Lutheran denominations in the United States. Five stand out, ELCA, LCMS, WELS, LCMC, AND NALC. Olive Ann Boyum closed the program with a very humorous reading and “God Bless America” was sung.
President Corrine called the business meeting to order. The secretary’s report was read and approved. The treasurer’s report was read and approved showing a balance on hand of $2978.25.
Old Business: Corrine reminded everyone to submit their recipes for the cookbook. She also made note of a correction to the e-mail address in the newsletter.
New Business: Work has begun on next year’s yearbook. Anyone who has changes to be made should contact Corrine. A motion was made, seconded and passed to give a $150.00 donation to the Good Shepherd Golf Classic coming up in August. Several Thank you’s were read. The Ladies have been asked to have an entry in the Rushford Days parade. Suggestions were made. Roberta Anderson thanked the quilting group for their donations to the Wagon Train and Special Olympics.
Announcements: The next meeting will be on August 7 at 1:30pm. Adah Circle has the program, Hannah Circle has the lunch and the Sunday coffee is by the Miriam Circle and the Membership Ministries Committee. Birthdays and anniversaries were noted. There being no further business, Corrine closed with prayer and the Lord’s Prayer was said and the Table Prayer was sung. Lunch was served by the board.
